Dean's First Haircut

I'd been dreading cutting Dean's hair for a while. It was getting long so after we came home from our Christmas trip we decided it was time for a go. Using inspiration from friends- we put Dean in his highchair (we evenutally moved him into Ivy's booster so I could get to him better), turned on a movie and gave him his bottle and candy! It worked like a charm. You can see me in the background cutting...

Mmmm! Candy!! And a clean cut little boy!

Dearest Grandmother...

My sweet Grandmother Jeanne passed away on December 7, 2010. It came to me as a shock since I had spoken with her the day before. My grandfather’s birthday was on the 4th, and I felt prompted to call them on Monday (since they live in Nevada) and see how they were doing. She has had health problems for a number of years- but always seemed to pull ahead. She voiced her frustrations in being unable to leave the house for a few weeks. We spoke about books, movies, and my sweet children to name a few. It’s funny- I would speak with Grandpa for 10-15 minutes and then talk to Grandma for an hour! We made plans for a visit the following summer- so that she could meet Dean. I remember feeling soo good after speaking to her. She seemed in such high spirits. I got a call on Tuesday afternoon about her passing. I felt so incredibly grateful and indebted for following the promptings to speak with them.

My grandmother was born June 11, 1930 in Colorado. Her family moved around a bit- her father was a coal miner. They relocated to Nevada where she met and fell in love with my Grandfather. They eloped days before her 17th birthday- and were sealed a few years later in the SLC temple. They had six children- of which my father was #4. I was the 3rd grandchild and 2nd granddaughter. My parents also gave me her name as my middle name.

It’s tough to really describe relationships sometimes. Growing up, she and I clashed a number of times- I think it’s the redheadedness or the similar personality quirks… but as I got older I really came to understand and respect her in a way I wish I had a child. I know I’ve inherited a bit of her personality and if I could come away with more- I think I’d be a happy person. I remember my mother describing her as one of the most selfless people she’d ever met. She really cared about others, she gave freely of herself and her time and truly loved the gospel. As I became an adult and a parent, I cherished the phone calls with her- she reminds me so much of myself.

I miss her. It’s tough to say goodbye- even if it’s just a little while. I’ve tried my best to stay in touch with my Grandfather. Grandparents are such sweet people- they can bless our lives in incredible ways.

Luckily we were all able to participate in her funeral- She LOVED pink- and so my aunts decided we should all wear pink. Phil got a pink swirled tie- and the children and I wore shades of pink. I was wonderful to see all the family together again- to see how the generations of the family have continued.

December Fun

December has been a pretty busy month for us.
We had a party at Phil's work with a Santa Claus. Ivy was very excited to go sit in his lap and get a present.
My new favorite toy is a jogging stroller. Aside from the fact that I don't run, this is an INCREDIBLE stroller. It's amazing how if you add bike wheels, how easy it becomes to manage it. I figure I'm probably pushing about 50 pounds of kids and stroller, but it's so easy. And it's true what you see in the pic- they do sleep in the stroller!
Another highlight was a mini-blizzard/snow storm. After being cooped up in doors I took the kids out and let them play. I actually let Dean get down and play in the snow! He doesn't have a great snowsuit that fits him, so I didn't want to leave him freezing in fleece for too long.
Last but not least- the Build and Grow program at Lowes. This is one of our favorites! Ivy was able to make a WHOLE train. I think we'll keep it in our Christmas decor box!

Photos and Christmas Cards

Earlier this year our dear photographer friend moved back closer to her & her husband's family. We were sooo sad to see her go, as she has taken incredible pics of the family!

Since we were having a difficult time find a photographer and needing to save some money- we went to downtown Springs with some friends and took tons of pictures! We'd trade off with cameras- trying to catch eachothers families.

It unfortunately was REALLY cold while we were taking the pictures- you can see the kids red noses! We had to get Ivy's coat on right aftewards!

I did luck out in finding that our friend has and etsy shop! I talked with her about a Christmas card and she designed this one for us.

We LOVE it!!
